The Technical Sales Engineer will bring leadership to our corporate strategy of growing our Engineered Structural Mesh business into North America, with a primary focus on developing and growing sales channels from our existing Canadian operations and in the USA from our added production capacity in California. This specialized resource will add to our existing technical resources to drive our rebar conversion initiative into welded wire reinforcement solutions through Architects, Engineering Consultants, Planners, Fabricators and Contractors.

The skill set of this resource combines both a strong and experienced engineering background with seasoned sales capability – a unique and already established individual that can ensure we can penetrate the market quickly, skillfully and independently. This individual’s experience will be broad to ensure access, relationships and prior success with these key stakeholders.

The Technical Sales Engineer position is an intricate part of a well-established dynamic sales team. He/she will promote and develop new prospects and engage with existing customers to drive sales of structural reinforcement products which require technical knowledge and strong understanding of concrete reinforcing applications. The individual acts as a key interface between the customer and the business as we build and institutionalize this core competency within Tree Islands business. He/she will execute sales plans to exceed business targets and customer expectations by performing the following duties.


  • Identify and qualify new growth opportunities within regions, including opportunities in: new products, new accounts, increased market share, new segments, channels, and geography.
  • Develops new prospects and interacts with existing customers to increase sales of an organization’s products that require technical knowledge.
  • Researches sources for developing prospective customers and for information to determine their potential.
  • Analyzes the territory/market’s potential and determines the value of existing and prospective customer’s value to the organization.
  • Participate in relevant industry associations (e.g. WRI, CRSI, etc.) and standard committees (e.g. ASTM) to continue promotion and acceptance of welded reinforcement products.
  • Establish and execute detailed sales plans and product, customer and channel strategies which meet or exceed Company goals for volume, margin and market share. Monitor key account activity within region while communicating critical information to the General Manager, Sales and Marketing.
  • Work with General Manager, Sales and Marketing to maintain or modify commercial policies, including: price schedules, rebates, and other discounts to customers.
  • Prepare budgets for selling expenses and other key SG&A components within region, as required.
  • Actively participate in forecasting of volume, price, and product mix based on customer, market and economic conditions. Prepare periodic reports showing volume, market share, profitability, potential sales and areas of proposed business development.
  • Represent company at trade association meetings and shows to promote positive Company image, promote products and increase brand awareness of Tree Island.
  • Resolve customer complaints, as required.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with executive leadership of key accounts.
  • Negotiate and close orders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the activities, products, and market share of the competition. Constantly collect and test understanding of market pricing.


  • Engineering Degree, preferably in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 7+ years of prior experience in a similar role, or equivalent combination of education and Industrial experience.
  • Technical and application fluency with concrete reinforcing applications.
  • Experience setting up and managing local and regional customer accounts.
  • Must be exceptionally strong with MS Office.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. 
  • Proven leadership ability, effective team builder and coach, driven self-starter, and high level thinker and strategist.
  • Hands-on individual who takes ownership and brings solid solutions to the table.
  • Ability to build strong, high level relationships at the executive level of key accounts.
  • This position requires regular travel within the United States and Canada.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
