Job Summary:           

Provide leadership and direction for employees involved in the manufacturing of company products and services. The Supervisor will work a rotating shift schedule (day, afternoon and graveyard). The schedule will vary depending on operational needs.

 

Job Responsibilities:                                                             

  • Build & foster a strong team culture.
  • Provide training and education that provides for employee health and safety.
  • Ensure all employees are trained in care for the environment.
  • Meet or exceed customer service expectations and ensure compliance with all company quality standards and procedures.
  • Ensure employees are trained and developed to meet Company goals and objectives.
  • Plan crewing and organize manpower for optimal results. (Performance to schedule).
  • Provide leadership in continuous improvement toward reducing scrap and rework.
  • Assist with troubleshooting as required during equipment downtime.
  • Manage the flow of materials in work centres.
  • Ensure the facilities are well cared for.
  • Provide effective cost control in materials, manpower and facilities.
  • Foster positive labour relations between the company and bargaining unit.
  • Administer and support company policies including hiring, discharge and discipline, where necessary.
  • Provide input and feedback regarding language and clauses for the union contract.
  • Ensure Company policies concerning performance, conduct and attendance are maintained.
  • Use corrective progressive discipline as required.
  • Manage employee performance problems.
  • Conduct investigations into all work place accidents and alleged misconduct.
  • Perform security checks of the property on a regular basis.
  • Others duties of a minor nature related to the above which do not affect the value of the job.

 

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of secondary education plus applicable post secondary courses or possess a skilled trade’s ticket or diploma.
  • Formal Supervisory training an asset.
  • 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing/ production environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ previous supervisory experience with safety, quality, production and lean experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Up-to-date First Aid certification.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (i.e. excel, word and outlook) and knowledge of MRP in an integrated computer environment.
  • Knowledge of WCB Alberta Industrial Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Knowledge of the basic concepts of workplace law.
  • Previous experience with forklifts.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Well developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of lean management metrics and/or procurement.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of personal ethics.
